Dance to Health

Southwest London ICS Partner and Priorities Fund has commissioned Aesop to deliver Dance to Health (DtH), a fall prevention programme using evidence-based techniques and dance. This programme has achieved a 58% reduction in falls for the in-person sessions and continues to engage participants online. Aesop has also been developing and delivering online Care Homes activity since COVID-19.

Overseas Nurses

If you have staff that are trained nursing in the native country, who trained in English and want to convert to the NMC we will fund the costs of the training, with employers being responsible for salary & enabling time to complete. For more information, please see the attached flyer and slides.

HUGE Congratulations: Sutton’s Nickel Support WINS Britain’s best ‘Heart of Gold’ small business at The Small Awards.

Learning disability service Nickel Support has been crowned Britain’s best ‘Heart of Gold’ small business at The Small Awards.

Nickel Support, a Community Interest Company from Sutton, which works with
adults with learning disabilities and/or autism, was celebrated as best ‘Heart of Gold’ business
at this year’s Small Awards for their work within their community with their trainees, and for
the social impact they are having beyond their community, through their retail project
Interestingly Different. Interestingly Different is a gift and homeware shop and online retailer
selling products from 33 social enterprises all of whom support adults with learning disabilities
or people facing other life challenges.

Nickel Support won the award which recognises the small businesses that contribute a bit extra
to their local community. Working with other small businesses, local charities, schools, local
councils or their local residents have achieved great things.

Owners Nick Walsh and Elena Nicola, who founded Nickel Support in 2012, were awarded at a
sparkling celebration event in central London, hosted by presenter, writer, actor and comedian, Sue Perkins.

Alzheimer’s Research UK ‘Walk for a Cure’

One of our wonderful colleagues here at LBS, Linda Mamedy took part in ‘Walk For A Cure’ and with her team raised an incredible £2,228!!

A message from Linda: ‘What a lovely day I spent at Kensington Gardens to complete the Walk for a Cure. Everyone was there to achieve the same goal and whilst doing this, gave us the opportunity to tell our story (free therapy!). We spoke of our loved ones, the different stages they were at and whether they were living at home or a nursing home. A great way to raise money for an important cause and meeting so many lovely people along the way. To date I have raised £1,235 and in total our team have raised £2,228. A huge thank you to everyone who have donated and supported me during this time’.

Every 3 minutes dementia steals a happily ever after. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia. Alzheimer’s Research UK are the UK’s leading dementia research charity. They exist for a cure.

Linda’s mother is currently living with Dementia and is now living locally at Sutton Court. The Alzheimers Society has personally supported Linda when making difficult decisions and has provided her with so much support over the last four years.

Sutton Technology Enabled Care Shop and Hub now open

The shop is located at Unit 1, Lower Square, Civic Offices, St Nicholas Way, SM1 1EA.

The London Borough of Sutton has opened a new shop, the first of its kind in South London, aimed at providing the latest equipment and digital solutions for people to live an independent life and remain in their own home for longer.  

The shop forms part of the Council’s ambitious plans to transform care for older people and those who have health and wellbeing needs – with a focus on keeping people in the familiar surroundings of their own home whilst continuing to provide the highest standards of care. 

The approach works through the installation of non-intrusive technology (sensors) to monitor people’s well-being and identify early warning signs of decline. The information from the sensors can be shared with professionals and carers (with the individual’s consent) to ensure the right care and support is provided at exactly the point an individual needs. 
  
Working with partners Medequip Connect and The Access Group (Technology Enabled Care) – industry leaders in providing equipment and technology to support people to live independently – they will run the shop, as well as operate a 24-hour, seven day per week alarm monitoring, mobile responder and repairs and maintenance service for the Council.
