New Nickel Support Coffee Shop Opens in Cheam!
Nickel Support have been very busy over the summer and are thrilled to announce the opening of a brand-new coffee shop! Beans and Bloom, located in the historic and picturesque Whitehall Museum in Cheam, which opens out into a stunning walled garden. It is the only coffee shop with a garden in Cheam! This new enterprise is more than just a place to enjoy a great cup of coffee; it’s a celebration of community, inclusivity, and local heritage.
A message from Nickel Support; “What makes Beans and Bloom truly special is our commitment to providing training opportunities for the adults with learning disabilities we work with. This is an exciting new enterprise for us allowing us to offer even more opportunities to our trainees. Particularly those based at our Cheam hub. We are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive. Our coffee shop will serve as a platform for these individuals to develop valuable skills in a supportive and encouraging setting. By enjoying a coffee at Beans and Bloom, you are not just treating yourself—you are also supporting a cause that empowers people and builds a stronger, more inclusive community.”
The coffee shop is open 10am – 4pm, Monday – Friday to begin with. With plans to open up at the weekend in the future.
Supporting engagement with reablement: a practice guidance resource for reablement services
The Social Care Institute for Excellence (Scie) has launched a new reablement practice guidance on addressing the barriers to securing, maintaining and maximising older people’s engagement with reablement, and the support and collaboration of family members.

Vintage Melodies: A day of Musical Nostalgia at Jesmund Nursing Home
A delightful afternoon at Jesmund Nursing Home with vintage songs from the 40s, 50s, and 60s
This special event took residents and families to the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, where timeless tunes and beloved classics ruled the airwaves. The talented performer entertained with live renditions of swing, jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, and crooner hits that surely brought back cherished memories.
The event was held in the beautiful gardens of Jesmund Nursing Home, a charming setup with classic decorations and a cozy atmosphere. Residents and guests alike were encouraged to dress in their best vintage attire to truly immerse themselves in the era’s spirit.
Many residents were seen tapping their feet and hummed along. The day was filled with warmth, joy, and the sweet sounds of nostalgia.
Light refreshments were served, including traditional treats to complement the theme.
The event was enjoyed not only by Jesmund’s residents and their families, but residents from other homes as well, e.g. Crossways, Bridge House, Grennell Lodge and Surrey Oaks.
Can you help put carers on the map?
We’ve teamed up with Sutton Carers Centre as well as the NHS, schools and other community partners to make Sutton a better place for carers.
Together, we’re working with carers to develop a Carers Strategy for Sutton. The Carers Strategy will bring people together to look at what’s working locally, what can be improved, and what’s missing.
We want to hear from unpaid carers of all ages, so if you’re supporting a friend or family member of any age who is disabled, has a physical or mental illness, a substance misuse issue or long-term condition, or perhaps who needs extra help as they grow older, we want to hear from you.
Please get involved by:
- Completing our survey
- Taking part in a listening session or focus discussion group (email [email protected] to register), and
- Coming to Sutton’s first Carers Conference on 27 September
