Census Day is Sunday 21 March. You can fill your questionnaire in online as soon as you get your access code in the post. It will take around 10 minutes per person to complete.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) runs the census in England and Wales and is independent from the government. They have provided advice on how care providers can fill out the forms and support residents to complete theirs.

Please try to make sure individual forms are completed on behalf of any resident who can’t do it for themselves and be aware that a member of staff, a family member or friend can help.

If you need additional help completing the questionnaire yourself, or for a resident, there is support available in Sutton.

You can get help completing your census questionnaire online by calling the Census Support Centre at Sutton Central Library on 020 8770 4774 or 020 8770 4772. These phone lines will be monitored Monday to Friday 10am to 5.30pm, with the exception of Thursday 1pm to 7pm, and Saturday 10am to 2.30pm. The Centres are hoping to be able to provide face to face support at Sutton Central Library and Circle Library, in line with COVID-19 guidelines, later in March.

You can also request support for yourself or someone else from the ONS, including:

  • Guidance and help in many languages and formats
  • A paper version of the questionnaire, if you prefer
  • Accessible census guidance, for example, in braille

There is a help area on the census website. It covers everything from who to include on the questionnaire to how to answer each question.

If you cannot find what you need there, Sutton has a dedicated Census Engagement Manager from the ONS. You can email Daniel directly, or get in touch via Twitter, @CensusSutton

There’s also a contact centre where census staff will be on hand to give help in a web chat or on social media, or you can call 0800 141 2021 to get help over the phone.

If you need help, you can visit www.census.gov.uk where there’s a wide range of support services available.
