About the role:
You will prepare an ongoing programme for mixed ability adults on the Autistic Spectrum and facilitate meetings one evening a month.
This will involve at least two hours preparation per month, and two hours running the meeting.
At meetings you will be facilitating group discussion, and guiding meetings according to an ongoing programme you have devised.
The group must be a safe space for ASC individuals to meet and talk about their interests and concerns. Facilitation should be responsive to individual and group needs.
You must be able to build a rapport with the clients, retain interest and momentum, encourage participation but also manage difficulties that may arise in the group dynamics.
Requirements:
- Very reliable, turning up every month at agreed time without fail (within reason) due to significant cost of cancelling meetings
- Experience working with ASC adults
- Knowledge and willingness to learn about issues affecting ASC adults, and areas such as neurodiversity, rights, social services, support
- Able to liaise with others responding in a timely fashion
- Sensitive to individual needs and group dynamics, assertive and able to deal with what comes up or put aside to deal with later
- Follows through with actions in between meetings
