Social Care Recruitment Drive
We need more people like you!
Here in Sutton, we can only deliver our high standards of care because of our committed, compassionate staff and service providers. We need more people like you to join us.
To showcase the different roles, techniques, skills and job opportunities in social care, we have opened Sutton Care Works, a ‘shop’ opposite Primark in St Nicholas Shopping Centre. It is open Monday to Friday, from 10am to 5pm. People can pop in to meet local social care providers and agencies to learn more about the jobs on offer.
Sutton Care Works is part of a campaign to recruit more people into the social care sector in Sutton. We are running social media and digital advertising to tell job seekers about the brilliant and varied work social care staff do each day and encourage them to apply for jobs on the Sutton Care Hub job portal.
You may know people who usually work in sectors like retail or hospitality who have the people skills that would make a great care worker. Or you may know someone who is looking for flexible, part time work to fit around their life and family.
Think about your friends, family and social media networks – which people would make brilliant care workers? Will you be an ambassador for social care and help persuade them?
You could:
- Share the Sutton Care Hub job portal link with friends or family so they can apply if they’re interested and tell them about Sutton Care Works at the St Nicholas Centre.
- If you know someone you think would be a good care worker, you could introduce them to your manager by email.
- Follow Sutton Council’s Facebook and Twitter and ‘Like’ and ‘Share’ our posts about the social care recruitment campaign.
- Use your own social media networks to tell people what a great career working in social care can be.
Sutton celebrates the launch of a new Information and Advice service, created to support all local residents
A new information and advice service funded by Sutton Council has been launched to provide information, Advice & Specialist Support to all residents in the Borough.
The new service called ‘Together For Sutton’ provides free, impartial, professional and confidential information, advice, support and advocacy to all residents in the London Borough of Sutton.
The service will be open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (excluding bank holidays) and will provide community members with a single point of access through the dedicated phone number or online referral form. This will ensure that residents will need to tell their story and give their information only once. Residents will then be contacted by the relevant service who will be able to provide the information and support required.
The service is made up of seven well-established and highly experienced voluntary organisations including; Advocacy for All, Age UK Sutton, Citizens Advice Sutton, Community Action Sutton, Healthwatch Sutton, Sutton Carers Centre and Volunteer Centre Sutton.

A Reminder of The National Patient Safety Alert
A national patient safety alert has been issued as hygiene products manufactured by Vernacare are potentially contaminated with Pseudomonas bacteria.
Vernacare have issued a voluntary recall of all ‘in-date’ cosmetic products which include wet wipes, wash mitts, barrier cloths, bed bath washcloths and shampoo caps produced.
It is essential these wipes are not being used in any health and care settings. There are currently no known cases linked to these contaminated products, but it is being investigated.

Covid-19 Update
This is a reminder that it is important for all providers to notify LCRC if you have any positive cases (staff and residents).
It is now more important ever to continue completing the national Capacity Tracker (homecare providers please continue to complete the London ADASS tracker). This information is used by all professionals, so your assistance in completing it daily is required.
DHSC Adult Social Care submission
The information below will help care homes and homecare providers by explaining the timeline for the mandatory submission in more detail.
Submission period for mandatory DHSC Adult Social Care data
Care homes and homecare providers will be required to update their data by 11pm on the 14th day of each month – or the next working day when the 14th is on a weekend or public holiday. Data must be no more than a week out of date i.e. it must be correct to no further back than the 8th of each month.
When the 14th is on a weekend or public holiday, the submission period will be determined by the next working day.
Summer Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF) open for bookings
Our Summer Holiday Activities programme for families receiving benefits-related free school meals are open for booking, including provision for children with additional needs. Go to www.sutton.gov.uk/HAF for details and how to book.
London Urgent Care Plan (UCP) go-live
The technical developments for the London Urgent Care Plan have been completed and tested. The UCP Programme Board has approved the recommendation that the current care planning application cuts over to the solution on the 27 of July.
What happens next:
- The current CMC care planning application will remain in use until the 27 of July.
- Users can continue to create and update care plans using their existing log-in
- credentials
- The process to begin migrating data currently held in the CMC solution will begin.
- Training videos and guides for the Urgent care plan are available and can be
- cascaded https://ucp.onelondon.online/training/
- Existing CMC users will be contacted by e-mail with information to prepare for
- cutover.
What actions should continue in the lead up to go-live:
- Existing CMC users should continue to publish and edit CMC plans.
- EMIS and TPP system users should configure the Valida client and register their
- smartcards.
- DRAFT CMC plans must be published before the 24 of July. No draft care plans will
- be migrated to the new solution.
- Stakeholders are invited to attend UCP roadshows: https://ucp.onelondon.online/
- UCP champions should cascade UCP training via local networks.

A Carers Guide to Home Fire Safety
Learn how to keep people that receive care safe from fire.
A formal video is now available for carers on the LFB website. Those who wish to view this video will have to input some basic information in order to gain access to it.
What you will learn:
- How to recognise people who are at risk of having a fire
- Identify key high risk factors
- Show what actions can reduce these risks
- Describe what to do in the event of a fire

Training and development: Foundations of Palliative Care for registered healthcare professionals
St Raphael’s Hospice is running palliative care foundation courses for registered healthcare professionals.
The Foundations of Palliative Care is running on the 8 and 9 November, and is aimed at/suitable for registered nurses, nursing associates and paramedics.
Topics covered:
- What is Palliative care & What is Hospice Care
- Advance Care Planning
- Symptom control
- Priorities of care for the dying
- Non-pharmacological interventions for symptom control
- Registered Nurse/HCP Verification of Expected Adult Death (simulated learning)
- Syringe pumps and Saf-T Intimas: practical workshop
A light breakfast, lunch and refreshments are included throughout the day. All attendees will receive a certificate that can be used towards revalidation, CPD and appraisal.
