COVID-19

New Plan B measures to tackle Omicron

The government has announced new Plan B COVID-19 measures after cases of the Omicron variant in the UK continue to grow. Numbers of COVID-19 cases generally remain high across Sutton and the rest of the country.

From Friday 10 December:

  • Face coverings will become compulsory in most public indoor venues, such as cinemas, theatres and places of worship
  • There will be exemptions in venues where it is not practical to wear one, such as when you are eating, drinking or exercising. For that reason, face masks will not be required in hospitality settings
  • Wear a face covering in shops and on public transport
  • Face coverings should be worn in communal areas of universities, colleges and schools by staff, visitors and pupils or students in year 7 and above

From Monday 13 December:

  • Work from home if you can

From Wednesday 15 December:

  • NHS COVID Pass to be mandatory in specific settings, using a negative test or full vaccination via the NHS Covid Pass

If you’re a contact of someone who may have been infected with the Omicron variant, you must self-isolate for 10 days, regardless of your age, vaccination status or any negative test results.

Updated guidance: Temporary medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination of people working or deployed in care homes

Updated guidance has been published regarding temporary medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination of people working or deployed in care homes:

  • Page summary: A letter from the Director of Adult Social Care Delivery to local authorities, directors of adult social services, care home providers, care home managers and agencies
  • Change made: Replaced the letter and the self-certification form for people with medical exemptions with updated versions to reflect the extension to the self-certification cut-off date to 31 March 2022

Book in for your booster

With two viruses in circulation this winter, it is more important than ever if you’re eligible to have the COVID-19 booster and the flu vaccines.

You can book online or call 119 to make an appointment, to book a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or booster dose of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine.

People aged 40 to 49 can now get a booster vaccine 6 months after their second dose. Book your vaccination appointment online or find a walk-in clinic. The NHS will contact you when you are eligible to book your booster dose.

Uptake of vaccinations across Sutton is low – let’s help Keep Sutton Safe.
